100 dancers, musicians to liven up the launch
Tawau: About 100 dancers and musicians will join forces in livening the national-level launch event for the National Month and Flying of the Jalur Gemilang on Saturday, with a special five-minute ensemble.
The launch event’s Cultural Performances committee member, Supian Buang, said the special presentation which combined the talents of dancers and musicians from the Sabah Cultural Board (LKNS) and the Sabah National Department of Culture and Arts (JKKN) will, among other things, portray the concept of ‘Sehati Sejiwa’ (One Heart, One Soul) – the theme for this year’s National Day.
“We have also applied the concept of unity and patriotism in the special presentation involving more than 80 youth dancers in Tawau and about 20 musicians, who have been training since last week,” he said here, Thursday.
Supian, who is also Sabah Penampang Cultural Centre manager, said the presentation would include dance moves from various ethnic groups in Malaysia, especially from Tawau, into a contemporary and creative choreographic sequence.
He said the patriotic songs used in the presentation would most certainly woo the crowd during the launch event.
“Among the songs to be played are ‘Sehati Sejiwa’ and ‘Warna-warna Malaysia’,” he said, adding that generation Y musical elements and modern hip hop choreography were also included to spice things up.
Supian hoped the audience would be entertained, and they understand the context of the performances.
Meanwhile, Tawau branch LKNS officer Hasrul Ain said more than 40 people representing over 20 ethnic groups in Tawau would be involved in the procession to carry the Jalur Gemilang.
Sabah Bugis Community Association Tawau Branch Chairman, Yala Munur, said the association would perform the Bugis drum presentation (Gendrang) when the guest of honour arrives at the Tawau Municipal Council premises for the launch.
