20 Students Of Defence Studies From UK Visit ESSCom HQ
LAHAD DATU, June 9 (Bernama) — Twenty students from the Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS), United Kingdom (UK), visiting the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) headquarters were greeted by ESSCom’s defence director Maj-Gen Datuk Masrani Paiman and senior staff here, Monday.
The RCDS delegation was led by Maj-Gen (Rtd) Sir Sebastian John Lechmere Roberts (Senior Army Representative) accompanied by 19 senior military and civilian officers from various countries including Sudan, Lebanon, Italy, Estonia, Egypt, Ghana, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Kenya and the United Kingdom.
The visit, among others, aimed to provide a closer exposure on ESSCom’s operations to the students, particularly the concept of and implementation of an integrated multi-agency operation and procedures to address the challenges and issues raised.
Masrani also gave a briefing on the role and functions of ESSCom, including the challenges faced in curbing transnational crime and kidnappings in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone).
Lechmere Roberts, in a short speech, said his delegation was satisfied with the briefing and was impressed by Malaysia’s commitment in addressing transnational crime, particularly in ESSZone.
