29 yachts from 9 countries anchored in Semporna island
Semporna: A total of 29 yachts from nine countries are anchored in the waters of Bohey Dulang Island for five days.
District Officer Dr Chacho Bulah said they hail from Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Canada, US, United Kingdom, Mexico, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
“The programme organised by the Malaysian Sailing Association is aimed at promoting tourism in the country, including Semporna.
“They will be in Bohey Dulang waters for five days and they will be welcomed at the Regatta Lepa Square with cultural performances and traditional food when they set foot on land on Aug 15 and 16 before continuing their journey to Tawau,” he said, adding that the participants will also be brought to visit the Bukit Tengkorak Museum.
He said this after leading a group of 60 people in an expedition to hike Bohey Dulang Hill as part of the visiting programme around Bohey Dulang Island which is located in Tun Sakaran Marine Park, on Wednesday.
On the visit, he said it was coordinated by Sabah Parks in conjunction with the National Day celebration.
He said, the programme was aimed at further boosting team spirit among civil servants in the district, aside from instilling the spirit of loving the island’s natural beauty and marine life.
“The unique marine life found in waters off Semporna should be preserved not only as the main tourist attraction but also as a legacy for future generations.”
The visit involved all department heads as well as security forces.
Meanwhile, Chacho hoped the essence of ‘leading by example’ can be highlighted through such activity.
“We conducted the expedition with all State and Federal department heads to instil the spirit of togetherness and teamwork to further develop the district,” he said.
