Para tetamu kehormat di Pesta Burung Borneo menyaksikan penaiktarafan Hutan Simpan Kabili-Sepilok Sebagai Kawasan Penting Burung (IBA) oleh BirdLife Antarabangsa dan Persatuan Pencinta Alam Malaysia. Antara aktiviti menarik adalah seperti kursus, pameran dan ceramah mengenai fotografi, teknik memerhati burung, kaedah pemuliharaan dan identifikasi kawasan memerhati burung. Perlumbaan mengenalpasti spesies burung terbanyak juga diadakan. Author 'A Field Guide to the Birds of Borneo', Susan Myers together with Datuk Masidi Manjun after the launch of her book at the Borneo Bird Festival. Myer's book was one of the two books launched at the Festival held in Sandakan. Penulis buku, 'A Field Guide to the Birds of Borneo', Susan Myers, bersama Datuk Masidi Manjun selepas pelancaran buku beliau di Pesta Burung Borneo. Buku karya Myers adalah satu daripada dua buku yang dilancarkan pada Pesta Burung Borneo, Sandakan. The festival is jointly organised by the Sabah Tourism Board, Sabah Forestry Department and Malaysian Nature Society. Datuk Masidi Manjun memerhatikan gambar tupai terbang yang dipamerkan semasa Pesta Burung Borneo pertama yang diadakan di Pusat Penemuan Hutan Hujan (RDC), Sepilok, Sandakan, dari 10 hingga 15 Oktober 2009. Pesta ini adalah anjuran bersama Lembaga Pelancongan Sabah, Jabatan Perhutanan Sabah serta Persatuan Pencinta Alam Malaysia.
