Districts under Esszone safe for everyone to visit: Esscom

Lahad Datu: Districts under the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone) are safe for everyone, including foreign tourists to visit.

Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) Deputy Commander Brig Gen Subari Tomo, who with other Esscom senior officers welcomed a convoy of visiting superbikers Wednesday, said the situation was under control.

He said there were occasionally incidences of cross-border crime such as drug smuggling and illegal entry by undocumented foreigners, but these were isolated cases.

“With the setting up of Esscom and its restructuring last July 17, cases of cross border crimes in the Esszone have become less rampant.

“Efficient and effective mechanisms have been introduced such as curfew, and integrated operations which are ongoing,” he said.

Meanwhile, Superbikes Association Malaysia Secretary General Sulaiman Samia’an said the convoy participated by 48 bikers from Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia was aimed at promoting peace.

“We also want to help restore Sabah’s diminished tourism image, following the militant intrusion in Tanduo, Lahad Datu in February 2013,” he said.

He said the convoy powered by 29 superbikes, which arrived here around 11am, would be heading to Sandakan.
