KOTA KINABALU: The Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry (KePKAS) has officially endorsed the 2nd Kinabalu Park Charity Run, scheduled to take place on 9th November 2024.
Its Minister Datuk Christina Liew announced the endorsement following a comprehensive briefing by the Sutera Sanctuary Lodges (SSL) Chief Executive Officer Ravi Kathiravelu during a courtesy call yesterday.
The event with the theme “Run & Pave A Path For Hope” is co-organised by SSL and Sabah Parks under the guidance of its Director Dr Maklarin Lakim.
“The 2nd Kinabalu Park Charity Run (KPCR) for a good cause deserves public support as it has the potential to not only promote health and wellness but also to raise awareness and funds for the beneficiaries.
“It is a significant event as it will be held at Malaysia’s first UNESCO Triple Crown site, rated as a stunning natural landscape,” said Liew.
She encouraged non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to emulate the footprints of the KPCR to help the needy and other underprivileged citizens, emphasising the broader impact such initiatives can have on the community.
Briefing the Minister, Kathiravelu said that last year’s run raised around RM153,376. 00, which was distributed equally to the two beneficiaries: Starfish Malaysia Foundation and the Palliative Care Association of Kota Kinabalu.
“This success underscores the event’s capacity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need,” he said.
Meanwhile, SSL General Manager Kueh Lian See said this year, the organisers are targeting to raise even more, as last year’s endeavour was deemed a successful one. “Let us do our part for the community,” she added.
Also present were SSL Director of Finance Tim Liew, and Marketing & Communications Manager Eric Liaw.
The 2nd Kinabalu Park Charity Run registration is now open.
