Kota Marudu has huge tourism potential

KOTA MARUDU: Tourism players here have been urged to get ready to welcome domestic and international visitors. Assistant Tourism, Culture and Environment minister Datuk Joniston Bangkuai said Kota Marudu was part of the proposed United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation's (Unesco) Kinabalu geopark site. The site covers Kota Marudu, Kota Belud and Ranau.

Sabah to woo international tourists at Dubai Expo

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Tourism Board hopes to build a network and capture the interest of international travellers following its participation in the Expo 2020 Dubai next month. Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin said the focus would be the Middle East and emerging markets such as India and Turkey. "The Expo 2020 Dubai is an excellent avenue for Sabah to market our destination globally. It is said to be among the first major global business events to open for visitors to be present physically, since the pandemic. "As our country moves forward, my ministry has started our aggressive recovery efforts in preparation to welcome back international visitors while we anticipate our international border to reopen for leisure visitors. Swab test exclusion will boost Sabah tourism

KUALA LUMPUR: Sabah's tourism industry received a boost today following the announcement by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor that fully-vaccinated visitors can enter the state without having to go for swab tests beginning next month. Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) president Datuk Tan Kok Liang said the relaxation would create enthusiasm for tour operators to market Sabah as a prime destination. "Surely, both business and leisure travellers will definitely welcome this. It is very good for tourism and it will create a spin-off effect, with hotels, the transportation sector, and the restaurants all filling up. "The Sabah Chief Minister has been very proactive, and he sees the necessity to really move the tourism and boost up the arrival (of tourists)," he said. (more…)

Kiulu to become world-class rural tourism destination

KIULU: The Sabah Tourism Board (STB) has set a target of transforming Kiulu into a world-class rural destination in the state. Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Assistant Minister Datuk Joniston Bangkuai said rural tourism operators must first, however, equip themselves with risk-management knowledge. This, he said, was important in order to provide a safer environment for visitors and to ensure there is zero accident at tourism spots. "STB's goal is for Kiulu to be recognised as a world-class rural tourism destination, similar to Kadamaian, which received the 2019-2020 Asean Standard Award," he said. (more…)

STB-SICC to attract MICE via strategic collaboration

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Tourism Board (STB) will collaborate with the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) to better market the venue for meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) both locally and globally. This includes assisting in promoting SICC at the upcoming world travel expo in Dubai, next month. On Tuesday, SICC delegates led by the Chief Executive Officer Datuk Rosmawati Lasuki had a meeting with STB chairman Datuk Joniston Bangkuai to discuss how they could work together to come up with strategic planning to attract MICE activities into Sabah.
