Miss Sabah Tourism to adopt different approach

KOTA KINABALU: For the second year running, renowned property developer SG Group presents the Miss Sabah Tourism pageant, with Poise Productions as the main organiser.

Serving as a platform to promote tourism, culture and friendship among delegates, appointed State Director of Miss Sabah Tourism Organisation, Weena Marcus, said the pageant this year will adopt a different approach to promote local tourist attractions to the world.

“This year, we decided not to do conventional beauty pageant activities where the girls visit sponsors.

“Instead, we will be producing three travelogue episodes in line with our slogan, ‘Promoting Tourism, Culture and Friendship.’”

Weena elaborated that the first episode will highlight tourist attractions in the State, the second to promote cultures in the Land Below the Wind and the third to foster goodwill among the contestants.

She revealed that the travelogue will first be made available for public viewing during the pageant grand final on August 11 at Hakka Hall, and will thereafter be released on social media for target groups out of Sabah.

In addition, the pageant also partnered with sponsor Pick n Pay for a ‘buy to donate’ charity campaign, where proceeds from the convenience store will go towards One Home Care Centre in Likas.

During a press conference yesterday, the 10 Miss Sabah Tourism finalists were seen parading exclusive batik pieces from Batik Bayu by the Sabah Handicraft Centre, themed ‘Colours of Borneo,’ which illustrated the rich cultural tapestry of the State.

This year, Miss Sabah Tourism will collaborate with Imago Shopping Mall for the Imago Fashion Weekend, which will feature pageant finalists flaunting exclusive pieces during the two-day event.

The 10 finalists are Kimberly Ye, Jacqueline Lee, Pritha John, Estherlyn Joseph, Eleanor Ng, Cindy Foo, Marvena Jitol, Claudieya Max Aloysius, Jacklyn Lo and Angel Oh.

Also present at the press conference were SG Group deputy CEO Steven Low, Avangio Hotel general manger Gordon Seet, Imago Shopping Mall acting marketing manager Rustam Ahmad, Sheila Liaw International Academy founder Sheila Liaw and New York Fitness Centre sales and marketing director Sally Lee.
