Sabah hopes to strengthen ties with China

KOTA KINABALU (July 26, 2012): Sabah hopes to strengthen ties with China in areas of commerce and culture as well as tourism. Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai said Malaysia and China have enjoyed a good relationship since the time when the late Tun Abdul Razak Hussein was prime minister and Sabah wished to enhance that relationship.

He said this at a dinner to welcome member of the Standing Committee of Communist Party in China (CPC), Sun Shougang.

Sun, who is also Minister of Publicity Department of the CPC Standing Committee, was here for a visit today with 11 other delegates.

“Hopefully, as a result of his (Sun) presence here, it will form a basis for us to move further in enhancing the bilateral relationship with China, particularly from the point of Sabah, in particular commerce, culture, tourism and other areas such as plantation,” Yee said.

Meanwhile, Sun said he was confident that the Shandong cultural exchange delegation would promote cooperation between Shandong and Sabah. Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce Sabah branch president Datuk Lau Kok Sing said he hoped there would be more trade relationships between the chamber and China. – Bernama
