Sabah Vfm to hold inaugural CNY concert in Tenom

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Vfm will stage the inaugural Chinese New Year Concert at the Datuk Seri Panglima Antenom Hall in Tenom on Jan 23.
State Broadcasting Director Ali Ngasio said, the concert will feature performances by local Chinese artistes like Law Kong Yaw, Liew Guang Yee, Sylvia Voo Ming Yin and Lee Young Fah.

The concert is organised with the cooperation of Tenom District Office and Tenom Chinese Chamber of Commerce with donations and aid from various agencies in Tenom and Keningau.

“The concert aims to promote Sabah Vfm’s programmes while getting closer to the listeners aside from introducing the announcers from the station’s Chinese Unit,” Ali said at a press conference at the Communication and Multimedia Ministry Complex, here, on Friday.

Also present were Tenom District Officer Madiyem Layapan and Tenom Chinese Chamber of Commerce Vice Chairman Kenny Yong.

The concert will start at 7pm and Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor is scheduled to launch it.

It will be recorded to be broadcast in a special programme in conjunction with Chinese New Year on Feb 8 at 10am.

On the selection of Tenom as the venue for the concert, Madiyem said it can be a platform to further develop the tourism sector in the district.

“I believe the concert can attract the people from around the district and also out of Tenom to attend it.

“It can provide better exposure for Tenom so that more people will know about the district and the selection is in line with the aspiration of the State Government,” Madiyem said.

He added that among the tourism products in Tenom that can be offered to visitors are the dances and culture of the Murut community, Murut Cultural Centre, Agriculture Park aside from the train ride from Beaufort to Tenom.

Among the activities to be held during the concert are quizzes, lion and dragon dance performances, Chinese traditional dance performance, magic show and lucky draw where attractive prizes await the audience.
