Sabah will benefit from revision to budget, says CM

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah will benefit from the budget revision with major projects such as the continuance of the Pan Borneo highway, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.

He said the state would also gain from other provisions, including the free issuance of visas to tourists from China.

Musa, the state finance minister, said Sabah employers would also benefit from the reduction in foreign worker levy.

“We are confident these measures will further stimulate growth in Sabah’s tourism and construction sectors,” he added.

Musa said the Prime Minister’s review showed that though the Government was faced with economic challenges, it remained sensitive to the needs of the people and continued to provide much needed infrastructure.

“Though there is a reduction in administrative expenditure, what is stressed is efficient and prudent spending,” he said.

Musa did not say however if he would be revising the RM3.812bil state budget for 2015, as a substantial amount of the projected revenue came from petroleum royalties.

Bingkor state assemblyman Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan had asked if such a budget revision was on the cards as the state’s revenue would likely experience a RM570mil shortfall in view of the current oil price fall.
