Support for Jazz Fest
Kota Kinabalu: Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun receiving promotional material for the Ninth KK Jazz Festival from the organising chairman, Jack Ong during a courtesy call at his office in Wisma Tun Fuad Stephens, Kota Kinabalu recently.
Also on hand were Festival Adviser Datuk Adeline Leong, Organising Co-chairman Roger Wang and Festival Adviser Frankie Fu.
Ong thanked Masidi for his unceasing support to the festival in past years and also briefed him on the programmes for the upcoming Ninth KK Jazz Festival to be held at the Covered Tennis Courts of the Sutera Resort this July 24 and 25.
This year, four international bands and musicians, together with nine renowned and upcoming Malaysian talents and bands, will join the line-up for an exciting two-night concert.
Sabahan’s Daphne Iking would also be back to emcee the festival that is jointly-organised by the Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu (RCKK) and Society of Performing Arts Kota Kinabalu (SPArKS).
This year, the festival features international artists – Motown legend, Bobby Taylor, internationally renowned Gugun Blues Shelter from Indonesia, The Rio Sidik Quartet also from Indonesia and a nominee for the International Artist of the Year in 2013 and 2014 Boston Music Awards, fingerstyle guitarist, Shun Ng.
For the local front, performing at the festival are Liyana Fizi, May Mow with bands from Sabah – Faizul Sany & The Hybrid, Suria Buskers, Headhunters and Quadro Forte.
The festival’s doors opens at 6pm and the first act starts at 7pm and ends at 11pm each night.
An annual affair, proceeds from ticket sales is used to fund deserving community projects of the Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu.
